Most people don't know this, but half the reason we moved to Wichita was so that I could get into a good school and have the opportunity to get a band started and play shows. Wichita was the closest city we could move to, where we are still close to the rest of the family, but we're in a position where my mom could get the job she wants, and I can get into the band I've been looking for.
March 1st was the move-in day for us. That was our first night in the apartment, and the first night staying in Wichita as a permanent resident. It is May 10th now, nearly two and a half months later. I've made some ridiculously awesome friends during this time, and to my surprise, I've already found a band.
I met Michael Burks at a metal show here in Wichita. We started talking and hanging out and we've become good friends. One day he sent me a text message asking if he knew anybody who could fill in for their guitarist for his band's show on May 25th. Of course, being a guitarist and seeing the opportunity rise, I instantly took the spot. We had band practice about a week later, and they were amazed at how quickly I learned their songs.
Here, three weeks after the first practice, we've written a brand new song with my riffs, that they are constantly saying is their best song of the four they now have, and I hear the band is seriously considering keeping me as a full-time band member. There have been quite a few hints while at practice that they want me to stay in the band, including the keyboardist, Andrew, referring to me being with the band when they record their EP this summer. Ever since the first practice, the band members have felt like family to me. I was accepted, and there was no awkward moment when you first meet someone and you're not sure what they're all about. I just got in there, and we were a family. It's pretty awesome.
I know I shouldn't say this, considering the band hasn't officially added me as a band member, but I really can't see myself NOT being in this band. They share a lot of the same interests, and they are as serious as I am about making the music heavy, melodic and interesting, while at the same time having fun and trying to have a good time at every practice.
They're called Eyes Before Terror, and their first show is on Wednesday, May 25th at the Eagle's Lodge. 3103 N. Broadway. The other bands playing include ROARK, No Remorse, Stay, Through the Fire, Stand United, and The Carrier. It's only $8. If you like Christian Metal, or you know someone that does, you should (have them) make a trip up there! The more people that show up the better.
