Hands down the best tour that has ever come to Wichita, The Summer Slaughter Tour, is coming to The Cotillion on August 3rd, with The Black Dahlia Murder, Whitechapel, Darkest Hour, Six Feet Under, Dying Fetus, As Blood Runs Black, Oceano, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Within the Ruins, and Powerglove. 10 bands. It starts at 3:00 in the afternoon, making it the earliest concert I'll have gone to other than Warped Tour this July.

I'm really excited for this because The Black Dahlia Murder, Whitechapel, As Blood Runs Black, Oceano, Fleshgod Apocalypse, and Within the Ruins are all bands that my friends and I have been listening to constantly for the past few years. The first two being two of my favorite bands ever. So of course I'm really excited for this. And it's only $20!

The only thing that could make this show any better is if our band, Eyes Before Terror, could play it. That would be pretty intense.

Thu, 19 May 2011 12:03:00 -0700 The last days of school http://thatoneplace.posterous.com/the-last-days-of-school http://thatoneplace.posterous.com/the-last-days-of-school

Okay, so tomorrow is the last day of school, and it's a C day, so all the classes are short. Pretty excited about that. Tonight is Eyes Before Terror's first show down in Ark City. Word is it's supposed to rain in Ark City after school, which i don't doubt. It's been cloudy all day. Apparently the band who invited us to play at this stage has played there before in the middle of rain, thunder, and lightning and they were fine. It's an outdoor stage with a roof on it at Wilson Park. We play at 5:30, and I'm really hoping everything turns out fine.

We have 3 full songs, half of another song, an intro, and a melodic interlude written for the album so far. We plan on it being an EP, so maybe we can just finish writing the new song, and perfect it for the recording this summer. We plan on titling the album Faith Outside The Lines, though if that doesn't fit I'll talk to them about using the title of the new song, Crown of Thorns, for the album title.

Tue, 17 May 2011 11:46:00 -0700 Eyes Before Terror (part 2) http://thatoneplace.posterous.com/eyes-before-terror-part-2 http://thatoneplace.posterous.com/eyes-before-terror-part-2

Sooooo, continuing from the last blog about this band, this past weekend has brought some interesting news. First of all, the band officially added me as a full-time guitarist on Thursday, and then on Friday my friend's band, called The Excellence of Execution, invited us to play this Thursday in Ark City in a benefit show with them. Of course Michael and I were excited at the opportunity and talked with the band at practice the next day. Turns out the whole band thinks we're ready, and we gave them a call saying we'll play. They said we'll play at 5:30, gave us the info, and there we go.

It seems so unreal to have this coming together so quickly. I'm glad I had the chance to make friends with these bands before I joined EBT, so that once we were ready to play shows, we would have other bands asking us to play with them, a lot like what TEOE has done for us already. Hopefully this can turn into something much bigger by the end of summer.

This summer we've made plans to use our keyboardist's, Andrew's, basement as a small recording studio and record our EP, saving back a small band fund to supply recordable CDs and cases so we can get our first few songs recorded and out there to have something to sell at shows. Hopefully we can talk to other bands around the city and see how they got shirts printed, where they got shirts printed, and how much it cost.

There are plenty of local bands out of Wichita who I've personally become friends with, including The Excellence of Execution, Nothing is Everything, Ages, Autumn of Terror, Miss Frazier, No Remorse, Untapped Market, and In the Trenches. Most of these bands have made quite a big name for themselves in the local scene, especially Nothing is Everything (who got to play at The Cotillion with As I Lay Dying and Winds of Plague, making them the most well-known metal band in Wichita), Untapped Market (who were actually fairly big a couple of years ago, and who have reunited and plan on releasing a full-length album this summer), and In the Trenches (who are really close to being signed to a major label).

The only reason for the last paragraph is to say that the bands in Wichita are actually starting to get bigger, and I'm proud to finally be a part of it.

"Iris scanning. Microchipping. Wiretapping.
Cataloging information on innocent citizens lives...

In this panopticon society of slavery.
A culture of sheep with no concept of privacy.
Those who question the system are demonized because
why would you mind if you have nothing to hide?

If you have nothing to hide then why would you mind?
Why would you mind that they torch the Bill of Rights,
listen in on your conversations and trace everything that you buy,
and microchip your cars to track and tax you by the mile?

Wake me up from this Orwellian nightmare!
I'm screaming but no one around me seems to care as IBM invests
in RFID technology, the same corporation that cataloged
the Jews for the Nazis to be exterminated.
Now they're targeting you and me.

Iris scanning. Microchipping. Wiretapping.
Cataloging information on innocent citizens lives.

Prison planet. Can't you see where this is all headed?
To a high-tech police state control grid.

In this panopticon society of slavery,
a culture of sheep with no concept of privacy.

Prison planet."

This song is called "Prison Planet" by the band Molotov Solution. The lyricist's name is Nick Arthur. He is probably one of the most ingenious men in rock or metal period. This band plays a style of metal that most people look at and say "It's just mindless screaming and banging on instruments...."

......okay, then. Let's see Lil Wayne or Eminem write ANYTHING as insightful as this. This is really something that gets a good message across, and actually educates, as opposed to rap/hip hop lyrics ranting on about some random prostitute and how great she was in bed.... I know that may sound harsh, but it's the truth.

That's all I really have to say.

Tue, 10 May 2011 11:47:00 -0700 Eyes Before Terror http://thatoneplace.posterous.com/eyes-before-terror http://thatoneplace.posterous.com/eyes-before-terror

Most people don't know this, but half the reason we moved to Wichita was so that I could get into a good school and have the opportunity to get a band started and play shows. Wichita was the closest city we could move to, where we are still close to the rest of the family, but we're in a position where my mom could get the job she wants, and I can get into the band I've been looking for.

March 1st was the move-in day for us. That was our first night in the apartment, and the first night staying in Wichita as a permanent resident. It is May 10th now, nearly two and a half months later. I've made some ridiculously awesome friends during this time, and to my surprise, I've already found a band.

I met Michael Burks at a metal show here in Wichita. We started talking and hanging out and we've become good friends. One day he sent me a text message asking if he knew anybody who could fill in for their guitarist for his band's show on May 25th. Of course, being a guitarist and seeing the opportunity rise, I instantly took the spot. We had band practice about a week later, and they were amazed at how quickly I learned their songs.

Here, three weeks after the first practice, we've written a brand new song with my riffs, that they are constantly saying is their best song of the four they now have, and I hear the band is seriously considering keeping me as a full-time band member. There have been quite a few hints while at practice that they want me to stay in the band, including the keyboardist, Andrew, referring to me being with the band when they record their EP this summer. Ever since the first practice, the band members have felt like family to me. I was accepted, and there was no awkward moment when you first meet someone and you're not sure what they're all about. I just got in there, and we were a family. It's pretty awesome.

I know I shouldn't say this, considering the band hasn't officially added me as a band member, but I really can't see myself NOT being in this band. They share a lot of the same interests, and they are as serious as I am about making the music heavy, melodic and interesting, while at the same time having fun and trying to have a good time at every practice.

They're called Eyes Before Terror, and their first show is on Wednesday, May 25th at the Eagle's Lodge. 3103 N. Broadway. The other bands playing include ROARK, No Remorse, Stay, Through the Fire, Stand United, and The Carrier. It's only $8. If you like Christian Metal, or you know someone that does, you should (have them) make a trip up there! The more people that show up the better.

Thu, 05 May 2011 12:21:00 -0700 Osama/Obama. 1 down, 1 to go. http://thatoneplace.posterous.com/osamaobama-1-down-1-to-go http://thatoneplace.posterous.com/osamaobama-1-down-1-to-go

America has been cheering in victory over the death of Osama Bin Laden. Many people are saying that now the war is over, and soon the government will start bringing our troops back home. The people who hear this believe it and are anxious for their return, where on the other hand... that's not going to happen. And even if it does, we are screwed.
A lot of Americans think it was Obama who killed Bin Laden, and that without Obama, we would still be searching for him. I disagree 100%. Obama had NOTHING to do with the death of OBL. He was just the guy who was in office when our troops finally found him and killed him. Bin Laden was killed by an American soldier who just a few weeks ago Obama was debating on whether or not should be paid.
The next thing is, this war is far from over. The Taliban are nothing like the Nazis. In a bad way. If we thought 9/11 was bad, Americans killing Osama Bin Laden just stirred up the beehive. I think for the first time since the Civil War, we're going to have a state of war fought on our own soil, and Obama is just steps away from an assassination. I could be wrong, but it's a highly likely theory, and could very well happen within the next few years. If not sooner.
